iPhone Duo: $1,999 to Own, Up to $1,499 to Repair

In the United States, Apple opened preorders for the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 5 a.m. Pacific Time. It goes on sale on October 23 in the US and more than 70 other countries and regions, and in 28 more on October 30, MacRumors reported. Two days before preorders, Apple published what it charges to fix one without AppleCare+.

The price list

US pricing starts at $1,999 for 256GB, then $2,199 for 512GB, $2,599 for 1TB and $3,199 for 2TB, in Star White or Night Sky. MacRumors notes the Duo costs $800 more than the iPhone 18 Pro at equal storage. It uses Touch ID instead of Face ID and a two lens camera without telephoto. A 24 month lease through Apple Upgrade starts at $57.99 a month.

The repair list

Apple's US estimates without AppleCare+ are: cover layer over the inner display $49, back glass $199, battery $229, rear camera $229, outer display $379, outer display and back glass $509, inner display $999, and other damage $1,499. With AppleCare+, the inner display and other accidental damage fall to $99 each, the outer display to $29 and the cover layer to $19. AppleCare+ for the Duo costs $19.99 a month, $199.99 a year or $399 upfront, MacRumors reported. For comparison, Android Authority puts the inner screen repair on a Galaxy Z Fold 8 at $419.

The arithmetic

The numbers are simple. One inner screen repair without coverage ($999) costs more than two and a half times the upfront AppleCare+ fee ($399). The removable cover layer, at $49, is the cheapest line on the list and the one Apple designed to be replaced. Apple's hardware chief has said the company should be held accountable on the crease. The first owners get their phones on October 23.
